ADVOCACY
| Issues
of continuing interest among FCPS librarians: |
| |
| Extended
Contracts – This issue is at least 20 years old. Library Supervisor Elsie Brumback suggested
in the December, 1971 issue of TradeMark, “I think the answer
to the dilemma that elementary librarians face in trying
to comply with the above regulation is a longer contract
for elementary …librarians.”
(Regulation 6801- Circulation of materials to students
shall begin the first day that school is in session and shall
end ten school days prior to
the closing of school. Research
and reference materials shall continue
to be available in the library media center to pupils with
specific assignments until the last date that school is in
session.) |

| Clerical
Support – This issue is at least 20 years old. The September 1972 TradeMark notes ASLFC
members will be watching FEA negotiations with the School
Board that include “full time help for all elementary schools
over 770; part time for all under that figure.” In 1984, ASLFC conducted a survey to demonstrate
the need for clerical support in school libraries resulting
in a 48 page document. |
